Play and the act of Play

Toy Design:
Hand Shadow
Exploration and Process

This project went rather smoothly, in my opinion. I got the feedback I needed and improved on all the things the lecturer pointed out that needed improvement. There was a slight hiccup for my ideation. As I got the hand and wrist part I could not come up with many original ideas. Added on to the fact that the toy must be worn, my ideas were even more limited. I overcame this by scouting pinterest for inspiration, asking my brother about his toys he played as a kid and talking to my close friends in hopes of them saying something to spark an idea.

Brief

Design a toy for the children's youth group using the design thinking process as a guideline.

The toy must be manually operated, made of the materials stated in the categories, and fitted to be played with assigned body part (in this case, it's the hand and wrist).

Reflection

There was definitely a silver lining in getting the ‘hand and wrist’ section of the body. Initially, I was hoping to get the head or arms so when I got the hand and wrist, I was quite upset as I already had several ideas for the arms and head. However, I found myself relieved I got the hand and wrist as the toy would be on a smaller scale where else my friends who got the head and arms were complaining about how troublesome and time consuming it was to make the toys as they had to be upscaled.
